Chinese New Year Movies- Connected 保持通話 and Beast Stalker 証人

During CNY, I have watched 2 movies on Astro WLT and I enjoyed both of the movies very much. The first one is ‘Connected’ starring Louis Ko and Barbie Hsu. Although it has bad guys and action in it, I find some of the parts in the movie funny. Why?? Because of Louis Ko. Instead of acting as a smart and cool guy, he acted as a guy who has a son and the son’s impression of him is of a father who always breaks his promise.

This show is about Louis who received a phone call from a stranger (Barbie) asking him for help as she is caught by some bad guys and the bad guys will go after her daughter too. The whole movie was about how Louis trying to help Barbie. In the movie, he changed 3 cars and it is so funny that he managed to steal all the cars so easily.. and he actually speed against the traffic and caused so many cars to get into accident and yet there’s no police chasing after him except Nick Cheung who’s trying to help as he also smelt something fishy. One of the cars that he used looks like our Savvy from the back but of course it’s not. But I don’t know what car is that.
Wong Cho Lam also made a guest appearance in the movie when he appeared as a handphone accessories sales man. He’s really funny with his funny smile and the way he talked as a salesman.. but if I meet his character in real life with this type of smile, I think I will find it a bit creepy …

Louis is such a good man in the show until it’s kind of unbelievable. He helped Barbie willingly although he knew that the bad guys have guns and he doesn’t know Barbie at all before the phone call. In real life, how many people who do that for a stranger? And he’s actually rushing against time to go to the airport to meet his son who’s going overseas.

But, one thing is that this show is shown correctly on the eve of CNY because although it’s supposed to be a thriller/ action show, it’s quite entertaining and funny because of Louis’s character who is supposed to be kind of a loser. And I must say that I really enjoyed watching Louis in comedic or this type of movies compared to when he act as serious character.

The 2nd movie that I watched is Beast Stalker starring Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Nick Cheung Kar Fai. This is the show where Nick got the best actor for his portrayal of a partially blind assassin. Actually, should be colour blind as he still can see but only in black and white. Although from what I see, most of the time, Nick rarely talk in the show but only looked fierce and angry while Nicholas does a lot of talking there but I still think the movie is great. Anyway, Nick really looks fierce in this show with his one eye which is grey in colour (half blinded in accident when a piece of glass got into his eye). I wonder how they make the eyes look so scary.. by contact lense??

Ok, to cut the story short, this show is about Nick who has to kill or do any crime to support his wife who is paralyzed from an accident and need medical treatment. He received a job where he has to kidnap a lawyer’s daughter and to kill the child if necessary. When he was with the child, you can see that he’s really not such a cold hearted person if not for the money that he needs. Nicholas meanwhile is a very bad temper cop and accidently killed the lawyer’s another daughter who is the kidnapped daughter twin sister. When he found out the remaining twin was kidnapped, he tried all his best to save her.

Anyway, to those who like dark action shows, I recommend this show to them because I find it interesting although I thing I will like to comment is on the female actresses. None of the actresses are Hong Kong artistes and I find it difficult to recognize the face everytime the actresses appeared on screen. Both of the actresses could not speak Cantonese either. And the voice who spoke in Cantonese for Nick’s wife’s character is Esther Kwan, his real life wife. Wouldn’t it be nicer if they have Esther Kwan to act as her wife there instead of only having her voice speaking for his wife’s character in that show?
