Malacca Trip 30/1/10-1/2/10

I went to Malacca last Saturday with my mom. On the first day, once we reached Malacca, we went to Newton Culture Food Village to have our lunch there.

It’s something like a foodcourt but the place is very spacious and clean. The decoration of the stalls were very nice too.

We had nyonya laksa there. To me, the nyonya laksa is almost the same like the normal laksa, only it has a lime in the laksa.

After our lunch, we checked into a hotel which is Hallmark Hotel. After resting for a while, we decided to go to Dataran Pahlawan. The traffic jam there was horrible and we got stuck on the main road between the Mahkota Parade (MP) and Dataran Pahlawan (DP). The journey was so slow and when we reached the junction to turn into the DP’s indoor carpark, the guard there informed us that it was full already. After that, we decided to go to Mahkota Parade instead. That time was 2.30pm. When we reached the entrance into MP’s car park, there was jam there too and the cars did not move for maybe around 10-15 minutes. Everyone got impatient as no cars were moving at all and everyone sounded their car horns together. Finally, I only managed to park my car at 3.30pm.

After MP, we went back to hotel for a rest and went out around 6.15 pm to the Jonker Walk’s night market. We went by foot as it is quite near to our hotel and we reached there in 5 minutes. The night market was very lively and many things were sold there.

I bought ‘oh jien’ (fried oyster) and kuih lobak and we ate that for supper in the hotel.

By the way, during our walk in the pasar malam, there was a man who disguised as ‘Choy San’ (the god of wealth) and he gave red packets to anyone who will give him money in return.

The next day, we checked out after breakfast and went to Dataran Pahlawan again. Luckily, this time, as it was Monday already, the roads were quite clear and it was easy to find a parking near DP. We shopped there for around 1 hour plus. From DP, we wanted to go to Carrefour by foots as both the shopping centre are beside each other but lost our way. I had to ask 2 person the way to get to Carrefour.

After our shopping trip, we decided to have our lunch before going home. I wanted to have lunch in a nyonya restaurant called Bibik Neo as I read good review on it from the internet, but I could not find the place after doing a few turns. Finally, I settled for another restaurant called Banya Restaurant.

As there was only the 2 of us, we just ordered rendang ayam and nyonya chap chai with white rice. We also tried their nyonya cendol. The nyonya chap chai was nothing to shout about but the rendang ayam was great, only it’s quite spicy. Another side note is, the waiter or the boss, I’m not so sure, did not seem to be very friendly and did not smile all the while he was taking the orders which dampen the mood.

After that, we started our journey home. It was quite a good holiday and I enjoyed it very much. I'm also satisfied that I did not lost my way there. =)
